60 Years of Investment in West Alabama

On October 29 Pine Belt Communications will begin its 60th year of operations. In 1958, Dr. Nettles connected his first phone lines using only a homemade switchboard and that was the beginning of Pine Belt Telephone Company. From the desire to provide telephone services to West Alabama, Pine Belt has grown into a robust company providing state-of-the-art telephone, cable television, internet and wireless services.

Upgrades to Bring the Best Service Possible to West Alabama

In our effort in bringing wireless and internet to every country road and rural neighborhood in our area we have embarked on a $40 million upgrade.

From June 2013 through this year, Pine Belt has secured more than $40 million in investment capital, all dedicated to counties in the Alabama Black Belt.

  • $10 million secured from the FCC’s Mobility Fund Phase I reverse auctions. Proceeds allowed the company to bring its wireless network up to current technology standards and start offering 3G mobile data services throughout it licensed footprint including the construction of 15 new towers.

  • 11 million loan from the Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative to continue the upgrades mentioned above and add 4G-LTE services

  • $19 million loan from the USDA’s Rural Utilities Service which will be used to extend fiber to all the homes and businesses in the telephone exchange areas of Arlington, Dixons Mills, Sweet Water and Nanafalia

Pine Belt Communications is committed to bringing the latest technology and superior service to customers in Choctaw, Dallas, Marengo, Perry and Wilcox counties.
